OIL PAINTINGS
These oil paintings are worked up images from drawings and colour studies done in Libya in 2009 - 10 (before the civil war of 2011). Contemporary Libyan Arab culture under the control of a dictator, ancient history, cities, markets, historic urban spaces and remote deserts provided the basis for these works. To an extent they are somewhat documentary in nature but overall light, shadow, colour and spatial drama provided a never ending source of inspiration. Libyan people, their music, poetry and emotion inhabit every image.
